1:241 minuto e 24 segundosintroductions and some commentary to some of the Dead Sea Scroll texts including Book of Giants, uh, Jubilees, the Genesis Apocryphon. When we're
1:331 minuto e 33 segundoslooking at these texts, they obviously aren't given the same amount of credibility as the Bible, um, Old and New Testament. I know there are some
1:421 minuto e 42 segundoscultures that do hold them to a higher standard and proclaim them as truth, but why do you think we should as well?
1:501 minuto e 50 segundosWell, these are very important historical documents. These when you talk about the Dead Sea Scrolls, you're talking about a body of manuscripts, a corpus of of literary works that were
1:591 minuto e 59 segundosproduced during what is called the temp the second temple period, sometimes referred to as the Intertestamental period. And this is basically a period
2:082 minutos e 8 segundosof time that's that's bookend by two monumental events in Jewish history. uh the destruction of the first temple in
2:172 minutos e 17 segundos586 BC and then the destruction of the second temple in 70 AD by the Romans and the first temple was destroyed of course
2:252 minutos e 25 segundosby the Babylonians. So uh th this was a catastrophic in the psyche of the Jewish people and the
2:332 minutos e 33 segundossecond temple period is that period roughly speaking between those two events. Uh and there was a this was a
Capítulo 3: Second Temple period
2:422 minutos e 42 segundosthis was a period of time when there was a lot of uh reformation happening in Jewish culture
2:492 minutos e 49 segundosand the the culture was um being constantly there were cultural cultural influences
2:582 minutos e 58 segundosbeing exerted on Jewish culture from from the Persians and then the Greeks
3:043 minutos e 4 segundosand then the Romans. And so it was a time when the scholarly community and the priestly community were wanting to
3:133 minutos e 13 segundosto reestablish the foundations, the roots of their traditions of the Jewish
3:213 minutos e 21 segundostraditions. And so you had a lot of texts that were being produced during this time. Like for example, a lot of parablical texts which a parablical text
3:313 minutos e 31 segundosis is a text that um is parallel to the historical narrative. For example, the book of of Genesis. That would be that
3:393 minutos e 39 segundoswould be works like the book of Jubilees, the Genesis Apocryphon that are a retelling of a sacred history from creation to the Exodus.
Capítulo 4: Importance of the Dead Sea Scrolls
3:503 minutos e 50 segundosBut the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered between 1947 and 1956.
3:573 minutos e 57 segundosAnd there's more than 900 manuscripts.
4:004 minutosBut it's important to understand that some of these manuscripts are well preserved, very well preserved. And others only exist in fragments and and
4:104 minutos e 10 segundosmany of these fragments are smaller than a postage stamp. So, uh, scholars have been working
4:174 minutos e 17 segundosmeticulously for decades to to put these puzzle pieces together and
4:244 minutos e 24 segundosthey've had great success in this. And the scrolls are primarily written in Hebrew and Aramaic and some of them are in Greek. There's a smaller number in
4:324 minutos e 32 segundosGreek. And famously, every book of the Hebrew Bible is found among the Dead Sea Scrolls, which is an attestation to the
4:404 minutos e 40 segundosauthenticity of the scriptures except the book of Esther. It's the only canonical
4:484 minutos e 48 segundosum manuscript book of the Bible that's not found among the Dead Sea Scrolls. But as I said, there's a there's a vast body of
4:564 minutos e 56 segundosextra biblical literature also preserved um including the book of Enoch, famously the book of
Capítulo 5: The Book of Enoch & the watchers
5:055 minutos e 5 segundosgiants, which is not as well known as Enoch, but the the the book of giants is sort of a companion to the book of
5:115 minutos e 11 segundosEnoch. The book of Enoch tells the story of the Watchers, the descent of the Watchers, and everything that that
5:185 minutos e 18 segundosnarrative entails, but it focuses primarily on the Watchers. Whereas the book of giants, it tells the same story, but it focuses on the giants, on the Nephilim, the offspring of the watchers.
5:295 minutos e 29 segundosVery interesting addendum to the book of uh of the watchers in the book of first Enoch.
5:385 minutos e 38 segundosSo these are very important to answer your question. Uh these are very important um certainly for understanding the historical and
5:475 minutos e 47 segundoscultural and religious background to the scriptures, certainly to the New Testament because the the second temple
5:555 minutos e 55 segundosperiod encompasses the time of Christ because it it goes until the destruction of the second temple in 70 AD by the
6:036 minutos e 3 segundosRomans which is after the death of Christ. So it it encompasses this era
6:106 minutos e 10 segundosthis period in which uh the gospel of Christ is spreading and Jews and Gentiles are being converted to
6:186 minutos e 18 segundosChristianity. you know, the very very primeval church period. And so it's it
6:246 minutos e 24 segundosit it definitely provides this, as I said, the cultural and religious background for understanding how the authors of the New Testament were thinking. Indeed, uh some of the references made by Jesus of Nazareth.
6:356 minutos e 35 segundosThere's some references, there's some things that he says that, you know, are not derived from the Old Testament, from the Hebrew Old Testament, but rather are references to the book of Enoch.
6:466 minutos e 46 segundosCertainly the the writers of the New Testament, Jude and Peter, reference the book of Enoch. Jude quotes the book of Enoch verbatim in his epistle.
6:576 minutos e 57 segundosDo you have any idea who has written these texts? I mean, you look at the Bible. I have mine right here. And it literally tells you the author right
Capítulo 6: Who wrote the missing texts?
7:057 minutos e 5 segundosright in front of you when you look at each section of the Bible. But when you're looking at the book of giants, Jubilees, the Genesis Apocryphon, who
7:137 minutos e 13 segundoswho was writing this at that time, nobody knows. Uh the nobody knows who
7:207 minutos e 20 segundoswrote the book of giants. Nobody knows who wrote Jubilees. These are they're anonymous authors. The Genesis Apocryphan are anonymous authors.
7:287 minutos e 28 segundosAlthough the book of uh or rather the Genesis Apocryphan
7:357 minutos e 35 segundospurports to be a revelation delivered to Noah on Mount Si and
7:447 minutos e 44 segundosum or actually I might be confusing that with the book of Jubilees. They're very similar. Jubilees and the Genesis little Genesis basically.
7:517 minutos e 51 segundosYeah, the little Genesis. They're very they're both parablical. They're both retellings of sacred history from the flood. I mean rather from creation to uh
8:008 minutosthe Exodus and um one of them and I can't again I can't remember if it's Jubilees or the Apocryphan purports to be revelation given to Moses on Sinai.
8:118 minutos e 11 segundosAnd the reason why these are being written, I'll reiterate, is because, you know,
8:178 minutos e 17 segundosthe the uh the occupation domination of the Greeks
8:258 minutos e 25 segundoswas a was a was a very powerful factor during the sec second temple period that
8:338 minutos e 33 segundoswas causing a lot of conversion uh in the Jewish culture to Greek customs and ideas and Greek philosophy.
8:428 minutos e 42 segundosAnd you know there were the there were many Jews at the time who were wanting to participate in the Jewish rather in the Greek gymnasiums.
8:528 minutos e 52 segundosAnd um and so they were they were even practicing um a form of uh how can I how
9:009 minutoscan I put this uh politely? uh they were practicing forms of uncircumcising
9:099 minutos e 9 segundosthemselves so that they could participate in the uh oh in in in the gymnasiums the Greek gymnasiums which of course all the guys
9:179 minutos e 17 segundoswere naked in those and so they were there was there was this cultural conversion happening and then and then you had you know on on on
9:259 minutos e 25 segundosone side you had this cultural conversion and then on the other side you had the the the deterrent to this you had the the the the priestly class
9:349 minutos e 34 segundosand and pious Jews who were combating this conversion. And so they're trying to reinforce their their traditional
9:419 minutos e 41 segundosroots. Um and that's why you get for example the book of Jubilees. The book of Jubilees is very clearly an attempt to reinforce
9:509 minutos e 50 segundosuh the traditions of of of the Hebrews, their stories, their religious practices. Although it's very
9:579 minutos e 57 segundosinteresting because uh the author of the book of Jubilees, he does something that is that is
10:0510 minutos e 5 segundosum a wild departure from the customs, which is he's he insists on a solar calendar
10:1310 minutos e 13 segundosas opposed to a lunar calendar. Of course, the lunar calendar was the conventional calendar of the Jews. But in the book of Jubilees, the author is really promoting a solar calendar which
10:2210 minutos e 22 segundosis a departure from uh from the traditional kendrical system of the
10:2910 minutos e 29 segundosHebrew people which is very interesting because it shows you how complex that period of time was and it's it's really
10:3610 minutos e 36 segundosof course this was the Makabian I think the book of Jubilees is written during the Makabian period. Of course you had the Makabian revolt against the Greeks.
10:4510 minutos e 45 segundosThey overthrew um they overthrew they were subjected to the Greeks and they they overthrew them
10:5210 minutos e 52 segundosand and reestablished their own kingdom which was governed by uh the the priests who became kings.
11:0011 minutosSo the book of Jubilees it also gives you a specific worldview into angels and supernatural
11:0711 minutos e 7 segundosbeings. We also see a lot of this you know about the watchers and the Nephilim in the book of Enoch. But I'm also really interested in the book of giants
11:1611 minutos e 16 segundosbecause that point of view is something that we're not as familiar with. You know, we hear about the book of Enoch and Nephilim in the Bible. We'll definitely get into that today. But what
11:2411 minutos e 24 segundosis the book of giants telling us that Enoch and Jubilee is not?
Capítulo 7: The Book of Giants
11:2911 minutos e 29 segundosWell, the book of giants adds some very interesting details to the the Enoch tradition.
11:3711 minutos e 37 segundosAnd as I said before, it's kind of a companion to the book of Enoch.
11:4311 minutos e 43 segundosIt it gives us it's the only it's the only Dead Sea Scroll manuscript that names the anti-dolivian giants. And among the giants named is Gilgamesh.
11:5511 minutos e 55 segundosSo you have obviously there's this cross-pollination here between the Mesopotamian traditions of Gilgamesh and
12:0212 minutos e 2 segundosthe and some of these Dead Sea Scroll traditions. Um, broadly speaking, the Enoic tradition. And so you have
12:1112 minutos e 11 segundosGilgamesh, you have you have Mahawe, you have various giants who are named and and and basically the the narrative of
12:1912 minutos e 19 segundosthe book of giants is the the giants uh well the watchers obviously populate
12:2712 minutos e 27 segundoswith human women and produce this race of giants, the Nephilim.
12:3212 minutos e 32 segundosand and the giants the giants begin to devour to begin to
12:4012 minutos e 40 segundosconsume all the acquisitions of the land. So men are forced to provide for
12:4812 minutos e 48 segundosthe giants to sustain their enormous appetites.
12:5212 minutos e 52 segundosAnd when they cannot sustain them, the giants begin to devour all manner of of animal life. So people are trying to
13:0013 minutossustain the giants. Human beings are trying to sustain their appetites with produce, right? With the with the with the sweat of their brow out in the field
13:0813 minutos e 8 segundosgrowing produce. The giants consume all of that. And so they begin to turn their
13:1313 minutos e 13 segundosuh they begin to to to devour flesh, the flesh of animals of all manner of animals, which by the way is is
13:2113 minutos e 21 segundospresented in the Dead Sea Scrolls as a transgression because no one was eating flesh yet in the anti-dolivian world.
13:2913 minutos e 29 segundoswas a vegetarian diet. Um, and so the giants begin to to devour flesh, the
13:3613 minutos e 36 segundosflesh of animals. And there's even a list in the book of giants, which scholars believe this is a there's a
13:4313 minutos e 43 segundosthere's a um catalog of animals that are being brought to the giants for consumption. And when and when their
13:5113 minutos e 51 segundosenormous appetites still cannot be satiated, they begin to devour humans
13:5813 minutos e 58 segundosand ultimately one another. They engage in cannibalistic practices. And so that's how the the book of giants opens.
14:0714 minutos e 7 segundosAnd understand that the book of giants is highly fragmented. It's very damaged. So you only have fragments of the story.
14:1414 minutos e 14 segundosUm, and then after the consumption narrative, you get into the the the portion of the text which begins to
14:2114 minutos e 21 segundosdescribe the impending judgment. And so the the giants, one of the giants begins to have um begins to have very troubling
14:2814 minutos e 28 segundosdreams and he's very concerned. And so the giants convene and the giants by the way
14:3714 minutos e 37 segundosare in the book of giants it's it's evident that they are that they are um they're they're conversing with their fathers
Capítulo 8: Meeting of the giants
14:4514 minutos e 45 segundostheir angelic fathers and about these dreams these troubling dreams that they're having. They convene together and they determine that they're going to
14:5414 minutos e 54 segundosseek out Enoch, the scribe, to interpret the dreams because the dreams basically the dreams were um
15:0215 minutos e 2 segundoswere portents of the flood that's coming of the judgment against the watchers and against themselves against the Nephilim.
15:0815 minutos e 8 segundosAnd so they go and seek out Enoch and they have to uh I believe it's Mahay who's dispatched to go and find Enoch.
15:1615 minutos e 16 segundosAnd he and Enoch is residing on earth by the way. Enoch is depicted as residing on earth in the book of giants and in the Genesis Apocrypha.
15:2515 minutos e 25 segundosAnd so he's not in heaven. He's somewhere he's secluded on earth. And they have to make you have to make a great journey to find him. So the giants
15:3215 minutos e 32 segundosdispatch this this particular giant to go and find him. He finds him and Enoch interprets his dreams and basically it's you guys are in big trouble. You know,
15:4015 minutos e 40 segundosthere's judgment coming from heaven and the earth is going to be destroyed. And then the giants of course are are are very distraught
15:4815 minutos e 48 segundosabout the impending judgment. And that's kind of where the the the narrative ends. That's what we have from the book of giants. So and of course it's it it
15:5715 minutos e 57 segundosas as I keep saying it's a it's a companion to the Enochic tradition or I would say it's part of the Enoic tradition. Nobody knows nobody can say
16:0616 minutos e 6 segundosdefinitively how old this story is, right? We know that the composition was was um likely [clears throat]
Capítulo 9: How old is the Enochic tradition?
16:1316 minutos e 13 segundoscomposed during the second temple period. Uh but specifically
16:2216 minutos e 22 segundosbetween 300 BC and and and 1 AD somewhere in that general time frame.
16:2816 minutos e 28 segundosBut nobody really knows how how old these traditions really are, right? How old is the Inoic tradition? I personally
16:3616 minutos e 36 segundoscontend that the Inoic tradition is probably one of the oldest, if not the oldest story that we have in the in the Chronicles of Human Reckoning. It goes
16:4416 minutos e 44 segundosback into the anti-dolivian world. As far as I'm concerned, the tradition was preserved through the flood
16:5216 minutos e 52 segundosuh by Noah. And I'll I'll give you another interesting um anecdote here is in the book of Jubilees. Uh the author
17:0017 minutosof Jubilees, he he adds this very interesting tradition that it's an extra biblical tradition that Abraham
17:1017 minutos e 10 segundosuh was vouched traditions man not just traditions written
17:1717 minutos e 17 segundosaccounts from before the flood. So the the somehow Abraham had received from his fathers going all the way back to
17:2417 minutos e 24 segundosNoah written manuscripts assumably the book of Enoch or or the
17:3117 minutos e 31 segundosEnochic tradition and that he had these manuscripts with him but he couldn't read them because they were written in this ancient language which turned out
17:3917 minutos e 39 segundosto be Hebrew and Abraham was was given the uh he was he he was miraculously
17:4717 minutos e 47 segundosendowed with the ability ility to read Hebrew and then he was able to read these manuscripts that were handed down
17:5417 minutos e 54 segundosto him from his fathers going these were pre flood manuscripts and he translated them into his own language Aramaic or
18:0118 minutos e 1 segundowhatever. Now that's a tradition. I'm not saying that that's historically accurate. It just gives you an idea of how uh the Jewish people were thinking
18:0818 minutos e 8 segundosabout how these traditions from the flood could have survived the flood but
18:1518 minutos e 15 segundosthen also made it um uh to into the hands of Abraham and his descendants.
18:2118 minutos e 21 segundosSo another aspect of this also from the book of Jubilee in that book they're saying evil spirits remain on earth host
18:3118 minutos e 31 segundosflood. So if the if the flood the judgment from God for the actions of the Nephilim on earth of you know
18:4018 minutos e 40 segundosprocreating with humans from the watchers at the very beginning of Enoch to the giants to them you know starting flesh and taking over all the land this
18:4918 minutos e 49 segundosis considered evil by God and please correct me if I'm wrong Tim this is considered evil by God and this is what he has said I'm you know I'm I'm
18:5718 minutos e 57 segundosparaphrasing God here I'm disappointed in what's going on on earth I need to flood flood the world of the evil and
19:0419 minutos e 4 segundoshave creation begin a new. So this is where the great flood comes in. We have Noah tasked with find with building the
19:1019 minutos e 10 segundosark etc. But then you find in these ancient texts like Jubilee saying that some evil spirits remain on earth. How are we supposed to interpret that? Is
19:1919 minutos e 19 segundosthat some giant survived the flood or the spirit of giants are are here?
Capítulo 10: Evil spirits remaining after the flood
19:2319 minutos e 23 segundosYeah. Yeah. You're referencing a another very interesting tradition from the book of Jubilee. So the flood according to the Dead Sea Scrolls and according to
19:3119 minutos e 31 segundosthe tradition I would say generally speaking to the to the cosmology of the ancient Hebrews which is the cosmology
19:3919 minutos e 39 segundosof this of the of the biblical narrative um the flood the flood the mechanism of the flood was
19:4719 minutos e 47 segundosused to cleanse the earth of the watchers corruption and the watchers were in prison according to the tradition the watchers
19:5419 minutos e 54 segundoswere in prison angels God dispatched angels from heaven, Michael and Uriel and Raphael and Gabriel to come down and
20:0520 minutos e 5 segundosredress the wrongs, the transgressions of the watchers and to bind the watchers themselves. And the watchers before they were incarcerated, they were forced to
20:1320 minutos e 13 segundoswitness the destruction of their beloved sons of the of the of the giants who were incited to to war with one another.
Capítulo 11: Curse of the giants
20:2220 minutos e 22 segundosAnd so there's like this fratricidal civil war among the giants where they destroyed each other.
20:2920 minutos e 29 segundosAnd part of the curse of the giants, this is very very interesting, very ironic. The curse of the giants is
20:3620 minutos e 36 segundosdirectly related to their insatiable appetites.
20:4020 minutos e 40 segundosSo this is the thing that really defines the giants in the anti-dolivian world was they're really hungry all the time
20:4720 minutos e 47 segundosand they're eating everything and even each other, right? That's like the defining attribute of the giants in the anti-dolivian world. And so what does
20:5620 minutos e 56 segundosGod curse them with? He says when you die, your spirits when they depart from your body, they're not going to find any
21:0421 minutos e 4 segundospeace. They're not going to find any rest. Instead, they're going to be restrained to the earth. They're going to they're going to become vagabond
21:1121 minutos e 11 segundoswraiths. So they're going to be disembodied. However, this voracious appetite of yours, you're still going to
21:1821 minutos e 18 segundoshave it. The giants are you're still going to be hungry insatiably hungry and but you're not
21:2621 minutos e 26 segundosgoing to have any bodies to which through which to satiate this this hunger of yours. This is a curse. So these these giants are going to have all
21:3521 minutos e 35 segundosof the desires of the flesh presumably including hunger and thirst but they can't you know they they they can't
21:4121 minutos e 41 segundossatisfy them. So uh so in the Jubilees narrative
21:4821 minutos e 48 segundosthe floodwaters reside um subside Noah and his sons and his three sons now
21:5521 minutos e 55 segundoshave to populate the world have to repopulate the earth and they're you know his his his sons and his daughter-in-laws have to repopulate the
22:0322 minutos e 3 segundosearth and there's a problem there there's too many of these
22:1022 minutos e 10 segundosdisembodied nephilim spirits spirits, which are called evil spirits, by the way, or unclean spirits or demons.
22:1722 minutos e 17 segundosThat's the origin of demons, by the way, in Hebrew cosmology.
22:2022 minutos e 20 segundosThat was one of my questions. You're on it.
22:2322 minutos e 23 segundosThere's too many of these disembodied Nephilim that are wreak that are that are wreaking havoc with the sons of
22:3022 minutos e 30 segundosNoah. They're they're just they're leading them astray. They're causing all kinds of physical and spiritual maladies.
22:3922 minutos e 39 segundosAnd so again, according to the book of Jubilees, Noah prays to God and he asks God to remove them from the earth because they can't, you know, they can't
22:4722 minutos e 47 segundosfulfill this mandate to replenish the earth if they're constantly being assailed by these these disembodied Nephilim.
22:5522 minutos e 55 segundosAnd so God's and so God um determines that he's going to uh he's going to remedy the situation. But there's this
23:0323 minutos e 3 segundosinteresting figure who steps into the narrative. And this is a satanic figure named Mastema or Mastema.
Capítulo 12: The angel Mastema
23:1323 minutos e 13 segundosAnd Mastema is he he comes before God and he says, "Wait a minute. You can't get rid of all
23:2023 minutos e 20 segundosthese evil spirits. How am I supposed to do my job if you get rid of them? I need some of these these disembodied nephilim
23:3023 minutos e 30 segundosto fulfill my function." Right? Because in see, we have a and you'll forgive the digression here. We have in in modern
23:3923 minutos e 39 segundoswestern Christian tradition, we have a a an an idea of Satan and demonic forces
23:4723 minutos e 47 segundosthat is that is quite a bit different than like the traditional Jewish understanding of the devil. Right? In the Jewish understanding, which is
23:5423 minutos e 54 segundosrepresentative of the biblical tradition, the devil is ultimately an agent of God. Now, he's opposed to God.
24:0224 minutos e 2 segundosHe's adversarial to the purposes of God.
24:0424 minutos e 4 segundosBut I like to describe him sometimes as a as a disgruntled employee. He's he he he can he he's he's constrained, right?
24:1324 minutos e 13 segundosHe's restricted and he has a job. And the book of Jubilees really emphasizes this in the figure of Mastema.
24:2224 minutos e 22 segundosAnd so his job is to continually tempt and try and lead astray the children of men. So it's sort of a it's a test of
24:3024 minutos e 30 segundosallegiance, right? that constantly he's constantly trying to draw the sons of Adam away from their maker. And so it's
24:3824 minutos e 38 segundoslike a it's this it's this feelalty test that that that that he's he's functioning this this this is part of
24:4524 minutos e 45 segundoshis function. And so he needs these disembodied spirits to be able to do that. And so and so God resolves to
24:5424 minutos e 54 segundosuh to remove 90% of them from the earth and leave a tenth, right? to he's going to he's
25:0125 minutos e 1 segundogoing to leave he's going to remove nine tenths and he's going to leave one/tenth on the earth so that the sons of Noah
25:0825 minutos e 8 segundoscan continue to uh to propagate to replenish the earth without constantly
25:1425 minutos e 14 segundosbeing harassed by these demons and as the compromise masta the adversarial
25:2125 minutos e 21 segundosfigure he gets to keep onetenth of them so that he can perform his function which is to try and lead these the the
25:3025 minutos e 30 segundoslead the human beings away and lead them astray and uh into rebellion against their maker. So, it's this very
25:3725 minutos e 37 segundosinteresting scenario. Now, I'm I'm not saying that this is historically accurate. It's just again it's giving you an insight into
25:4525 minutos e 45 segundossome of the traditions that were circulating in the second temple period. It's fascinating stuff.
25:5225 minutos e 52 segundosYeah. And it reminds me of like, you know, the Garden of Eden and then you have the snake, right? It's like there you're allowing that you're allowing
26:0026 minutosthat temptation element in in because that that is a part of God right in our
26:0626 minutos e 6 segundosin Christianity our religion and hey there's going to be temptation there but you have to choose to walk a certain
26:1426 minutos e 14 segundospath. Um so it's interesting to me that he would say all right I'll I'll take 90% away but 10% that's that's on you guys you got to
26:2226 minutos e 22 segundosfigure that out for yourself. He also taught in according to Jubilees, he also taught Noah the the herbal remedies
26:3326 minutos e 33 segundosto to respond to the the maladies that were being caused by the demonic spirits. So
26:4226 minutos e 42 segundoshe gave Noah he taught Noah, I think it was angels who taught Noah uh how to combat
26:5026 minutos e 50 segundosthis this demonic assault. So, it's like, you know, it's a it's a combination of things. It's, okay, I'm gonna get rid of most of them. Mastema,
26:5926 minutos e 59 segundosyou get 10%, but Noah, here are ways that you can you can defend yourself and
27:0727 minutos e 7 segundosand remedy some of these um physical ailments that are being caused by these demonic spirits. So, it's very
27:1427 minutos e 14 segundosintricate, interesting story there um that is clearly, as I said before, reflective of traditions that were circulating during the time of Christ.
27:2227 minutos e 22 segundosYeah. And it goes back to free will. We we are as humans, we're given free will and it's up to us to decide, but I want
27:3027 minutos e 30 segundosto go back to demons quickly because it's just so interesting. I'm going to say it pointedly and then you can help give me the full backstory.
Capítulo 13: Are demons the spirits of dead giants?
27:4127 minutos e 41 segundosAre the spirits of dead giants demons?
27:4627 minutos e 46 segundosYes. According to the uh according to Hebrew cosmology,
27:5227 minutos e 52 segundosyes, demons are exclusively the disembodied spirits of dead nephilim
27:5927 minutos e 59 segundosfrom the anti-dolivian world. That's what demons are. They're the pos they're the again, remember, they're ravenous.
28:0628 minutos e 6 segundosThey're they're they're very very hungry and thirsty.
28:1228 minutos e 12 segundosUm, and they are seeking they're seeking therefore to possess human bodies in order to attempt to satiate these their
28:2128 minutos e 21 segundoshunger and thirst. And the book of Enoch explicitly says that
28:2828 minutos e 28 segundosthey will be called evil spirits in the earth, right? And evil spirit and unclean spirit are synonymous. So you get to the New Testament, you have
28:3528 minutos e 35 segundosevil/an spirits that are possessing human bodies. And demon possession is
28:4328 minutos e 43 segundosuh in in the New Testament, demon possession, it's accompanied by fits of epilepsy,
28:5028 minutos e 50 segundospeople throwing themselves into fires, rolling around on the ground, screaming at the top of their lungs. Think about
28:5728 minutos e 57 segundosthe gatherine demoniac who was so disruptive that the people of Gdara had to chain him up in a tomb, right? And he
29:0529 minutos e 5 segundoswould be howling in the tomb and he would break the chain. So his supernatural strength, he break the chains and he was running around naked
29:1129 minutos e 11 segundosand he was he was he was this just this feral um this wild feral demonpossessed person
29:2029 minutos e 20 segundosthat was completely uncontrollable right until he runs into Jesus of Nazareth.
29:2529 minutos e 25 segundosNow in the book of Enoch part of the the judgment against the giants there's a there's a there's a
29:3329 minutos e 33 segundossort of a time stamp on this thing. So the giants are cursed, the disembodied spirits of the giants are cursed to be
Capítulo 14: The judgement of the giants
29:4129 minutos e 41 segundosin this terrible condition, right? This torturous condition of disembodiment, vagabond, wraiths, hungry, thirsty
29:4929 minutos e 49 segundosuntil the end of the age, until the consummation of the age when the great judge will appear to judge the living
29:5729 minutos e 57 segundosand the dead. Right? So that's the time frame. So, you're going to be in this condition until the great judge appears
30:0430 minutos e 4 segundosat the end of the age to judge the living and the dead when the age is fully consummated.
30:1030 minutos e 10 segundosAnd at that point, you're going to be judged and and with finality, you know, in other words, you're going to be whatever the case is,
30:1930 minutos e 19 segundosthrown into the lake of fire, whatever, not specified in the book of Enoch. And so fast forward to the New Testament when you have Jesus disembarking
30:2630 minutos e 26 segundos[snorts]
30:2730 minutos e 27 segundoson the shores of Gdara with his disciples and this gathering demoniac sees him. In
30:3430 minutos e 34 segundosother words, the demons inhabiting this individual recognize the judge.
30:4230 minutos e 42 segundosBut wait a minute, there's a problem. It's not time yet. It's not time yet.
30:4730 minutos e 47 segundosWait, the judge is here spoken of in the book of Enoch, but it's not yet the end of the age. So, they run to Christ. They throw themselves at his feet.
31:0031 minutosOf course, this is the this is the when I say them, I mean the demons inhabiting this individual.
31:0631 minutos e 6 segundosAnd they cry out, "We know who you are, you son of God. Why have you come to torment us before [snorts]
31:1231 minutos e 12 segundosthe appointed time?" Well, there's there's only one reference that you can go back and understand this
31:2131 minutos e 21 segundosthe context of what's happening here, and that's the book of Enoch. That's First Enoch, where the spirits of the giants are cursed to be in this terrible
31:2831 minutos e 28 segundoscondition until the judge comes. Well, wait a minute. The judge is here because they didn't know that Jesus was going to
31:3531 minutos e 35 segundoscome twice, right? The first time he would come to die on the cross um for the remission of sins. Nobody knew that.
31:4231 minutos e 42 segundosThe angels in heaven didn't know that according to the scriptures. It was a mystery. And so these these demons who
31:5031 minutos e 50 segundosthey identify themselves as legion because they are many, right, inside of this poor man who's inhabited by them.
31:5831 minutos e 58 segundosAnd and they beg Jesus to cast them into the pigs, right? Rather than just cast them out in in in into the into the the
32:0732 minutos e 7 segundosdry places as it's described in the New Testament. And of course, they go into the pigs and then the pigs are driven into the sea. And um but this is an
32:1532 minutos e 15 segundosillustration of of uh this is an illustration
32:2232 minutos e 22 segundosof how fundamental the cosmology that we're talking about.
32:2732 minutos e 27 segundosThe anoic tradition is to the narrative of scripture both Old Testament and New Testament.
32:3232 minutos e 32 segundosAnd the tradition of demons is directly linked uh to or the phenomenon of demon possession is directly linked to the
32:4132 minutos e 41 segundosdisembodied spirits of dead giants for the anti-living world. Um that's what they are and that is exclusively what
32:4932 minutos e 49 segundosthey are. So when you read demons in the New Testament and the and and the shadim in
32:5632 minutos e 56 segundosthe Old Testament, it's not fallen angels. So, you see, there's this there's this confusion
33:0333 minutos e 3 segundosamong Christians today. They think that all of the adversarial forces, all of the powers of darkness are demons.
33:1333 minutos e 13 segundosWell, that's a category error. They're not. The demons are the disembodied spirits of dead giants. They're not
33:2133 minutos e 21 segundosfallen angels. fallen angels in the in are are are described variously in the scriptures as rulers and and and
33:2833 minutos e 28 segundosprincipalities and archons and you know things like this. They're the
33:3433 minutos e 34 segundosyou can describe them as the um as the defected sons of God. I mean these are the these are the sons of God who defected from the kingdom of heaven.
33:4233 minutos e 42 segundosThey're they're the apostate sons.
33:4433 minutos e 44 segundosThey're in a state of apostasy, but they're not the demons in the New Testament. Those are disembodied spirits of dead giants.
33:5333 minutos e 53 segundosDo you see that holding up today?
33:5533 minutos e 55 segundosBecause today we still see um possessions happening and exorcisms happening. Would that still hold up as
Capítulo 15: Are demonic possessions happening today?
34:0234 minutos e 2 segundosthese are uh the the spirits of dead giants as those demons or is something new coming into the picture?
34:1034 minutos e 10 segundosWell, I would be very careful with exorcisms. I I think that a lot of exorcisms are um exaggerated. Let's be let's be kind. exaggerated.
34:2134 minutos e 21 segundosUh I think there's a lot of fantastical elements. I think that you're dealing with probably in most cases very mentally ill people.
34:2934 minutos e 29 segundosHowever, having said that, I do believe that demon possession is very real, but I think it's also very rare. It's a
34:3734 minutos e 37 segundosnumbers game. Uh you know, there's 7 billion people on the earth. I think 7 billion, right? There's not 7 billion
34:4634 minutos e 46 segundosdemons for one thing. I mean, there's a very limited amount of disembodied spirits of giants from before the flood.
34:5434 minutos e 54 segundosSo, you're dealing with with a finite quantity of demonic spirits. And look at
35:0235 minutos e 2 segundosthe the the the example that we just discussed with the gathering demoniac. He had a lot of them just in himself. Nobody knows how many.
35:1235 minutos e 12 segundosMaybe hundreds, maybe thousands. Who knows? He was inhabited by a legion of demons.
35:1835 minutos e 18 segundosSo you have one guy who's got a disproportionate amount of demons inhabiting him. Um, so there's no way
35:2635 minutos e 26 segundosthat all of these claims of demon possession can be true. There's just not enough demons to go around as far as I'm concerned. I mean, if you take all of
35:3335 minutos e 33 segundosthis literally, there's just not enough demons to go around. So, I think what we're confronted with here with all because of course you know as well as I
35:4135 minutos e 41 segundosdo that uh exorcism is one of the hot topics on podcasts. You you bring on an exorcist, a Catholic exorcist, a
35:4935 minutos e 49 segundosProtestant exorcist, an Orthodox exorcist, and you're going to get a lot of views on your podcast. People are interested in demonology.
35:5635 minutos e 56 segundosThere's an there's actually an obsession with demons right now that's happening on social media. And so, there's a lot of misconception that's going along with
36:0436 minutos e 4 segundosit. And I've encountered a lot of severely mentally ill people in
36:1136 minutos e 11 segundosmy life. And you might think looking at them from the outside that wow, they might be demonpossessed.
36:2136 minutos e 21 segundosI'm going to say probably not. They're very mentally ill. I don't know that I've ever encountered a demon-possessed person. And I lived in some pretty dark
36:2936 minutos e 29 segundosareas like in Peru, in the middle of the shamanic neighborhood in Peru. Um, I just don't know. I mean, if if I had
36:3836 minutos e 38 segundossomebody screaming and howling and running around naked and breaking metal chains, I'd say, "Yeah, that's probably demon possession, right?" But if I've
36:4636 minutos e 46 segundosgot somebody that's just, you know, maybe he's got multiple personality syndrome or something and
36:5336 minutos e 53 segundosthey're just off and awkward and bizarre and changing their voice and everything.
36:5836 minutos e 58 segundosI I'm not sure that that would qualify as biblical demon possession or somebody that has epilepsy or something like that. Um, so I would just caution people
37:0737 minutos e 7 segundoswith with all of these claims that exorcists are making. Uh, I don't believe personally that exorcists uh let's let me be let me be careful.
37:1937 minutos e 19 segundosUm, generally speaking, I would not be deriving my theology from the testimony of exorcists.
37:2737 minutos e 27 segundosLet's put it in those terms. But again, I want to reiterate, demon possession is real. It's real. I
37:3437 minutos e 34 segundoswould affirm 100% it's real. I think it's rare, but it's real. And and in so far as someone is demonpossessed, yes,
37:4237 minutos e 42 segundosthey are possessed by by the disembodied spirits of dead giants from the anti-dolivian world. I want to look at giants in the Bible.
37:5137 minutos e 51 segundosUm, yes, to your point on demons, I think JD Vance has a lot to do with that. um uh in conjunction with the UFO UAP
Capítulo 16: Giants in the Bible
37:5937 minutos e 59 segundosphenomenon that you and I talk about frequently as well. But in the Bible, which is is really this is the text, Tim, like you know it like I do. This this is where we get our information.
38:1038 minutos e 10 segundosThis is how we many of us lead our lives. The majority of the world is they're they're reading this and they're like this is the word of the Lord. So
38:1938 minutos e 19 segundosit's open to interpretation. Um you have your interpretation. Everyone has their own when they when they read this. Mhm.
38:2638 minutos e 26 segundosAnd I when prepping for this conversation with you today, I was like, I need to go back and read and read Genesis and I need to look. So I want to
38:3338 minutos e 33 segundosstart at Genesis 6. Um cuz something interesting I found in in my Bible. So Genesis 6 basically says the son of God
38:4238 minutos e 42 segundosuh went into the daughters of the men and the Nephilim appeared. Um, this is pre flood. Mhm.
38:4938 minutos e 49 segundosBut I my Bible is one of these study Bibles. And I was like, I'm Let's see what it says down below. And here's the
38:5738 minutos e 57 segundosinterpretation that I would love your reaction to that that they're giving.
39:0039 minutosUm, it says, "Another plausible suggestion is that the son of God refers to royal figures, kings who were closely
39:0839 minutos e 8 segundosassociated with gods in the ancient near east who proudly perpetuated and aggravated the corrupt lifestyle."
39:1539 minutos e 15 segundosum of the son of Cain, sons of canes of who was virtually a royal figure and established themselves royal her. So,
39:2339 minutos e 23 segundosare we interpreting that as these aren't actually fallen angels or the watchers and the Nephilim
39:3139 minutos e 31 segundosum aren't actually giants? Because here in Genesis 6:4, the Nephilim were on earth in those days. And also afterwards
39:4039 minutos e 40 segundoswhen the sons of gods went to the daughters of the men, had children by them, they were the heroes of old men of renown.
39:4839 minutos e 48 segundosYeah, that's that's referred to as the Sethite theory. Genesis 6. So you have two theories. You have what's called the supernatural theory of Genesis 6 or the
39:5639 minutos e 56 segundossupernatural interpretation which attributes the sons of God which identifies the sons of God as heavenly beings as angels. By the way the angel
40:0640 minutos e 6 segundosdesignation is explicit in this in the Septuagent the Greek translation of the Old Testament which the apostles were using in the early church. It's it's
40:1340 minutos e 13 segundosexplicit there. where it says the uh the angels of heaven were saw the daughters
40:2040 minutos e 20 segundosof men that they were beautiful. So, um, the son the sons of Seth interpretation was developed in the ra the rabbitic
40:2840 minutos e 28 segundostradition after Christ. And there was this for whatever reason there was this um
40:3640 minutos e 36 segundosthere was this attempt to dethize the Genesis 6 interpretation.
Capítulo 17: Genesis 6
40:4240 minutos e 42 segundosAnd you know, you you get some of this the the general attitude of of the Jews toward the
40:5040 minutos e 50 segundosGenesis 6 affair in a dialogue or rather debate between Justin Martyr and a Jew,
40:5940 minutos e 59 segundosa particular Jew, uh I can't remember his name, Typho or something like that. I don't remember his name. But in that debate, um,
41:0941 minutos e 9 segundosthe Jewish guy was arguing that it's it's it's an absurdity to think that
41:1641 minutos e 16 segundosangels could be doing these kinds of things, right? that that how can angels be be lusting after human women and then
41:2441 minutos e 24 segundoscome down and because you're talking about in the Anoakic tradition you're talking about not just angels you're
41:3041 minutos e 30 segundostalking about watchers and and the watchers are described in the book of Daniel as holy watchers and these are
41:3841 minutos e 38 segundosmembers of of what scholars would describe as the divine council or the royal council so these are like really super highranking angelic beings and it
41:4841 minutos e 48 segundoswas a sc it was scandal less to the rabbitic community again after the time of Christ that
41:5541 minutos e 55 segundosthese regal beings could be subjected to lust like common human beings and descend to the earth and copulate have
42:0442 minutos e 4 segundossexual intercourse with human women and engage in this kind of activity. So it was a departure from the ancient traditions in Hebrew cosmology.
42:1542 minutos e 15 segundosOkay. So the Sethite theory is a departure from the ancient tradition because the ancient tradition
42:2342 minutos e 23 segundosaffirms and in fact the ancient tradition is is um is the anoic tradition in regard to the
42:3342 minutos e 33 segundosthese beings being angelic beings and not human beings. So um the the Sethite theory Sethite interpretation is uh I
42:4342 minutos e 43 segundosthink very poor exes Jesus to begin with. We have affirmations of the the the angelic incursion all over the Bible
42:5342 minutos e 53 segundosas I said in in the Septuagent it's the angels of heaven. There's no ambiguity there. When you get to the New Testament I referenced Peter and Jude there.
43:0243 minutos e 2 segundosAgain, in the New Testament, Peter and Jude are referencing the watchers. The angels who sinned in the world before the flood. Well, that's the watchers.
43:1143 minutos e 11 segundosIt's angels who sinned. It's not men who sinned. Really, the the Sethite interpretation has no leg to stand on.
43:1743 minutos e 17 segundosUm it is a it is a attempt to dethize the Genesis 6 affair and which is by the
43:2643 minutos e 26 segundosway um apparent in in the the the book of Jasher.
43:3243 minutos e 32 segundosThe book of Jasher is a what some people describe as a medieval forgery because the in the Old Testament there's uh
43:3943 minutos e 39 segundosthere's references to the book of Jasher in the Old Testament. So there was a book of Jasher that's lost. We don't have it. not wasn't found among the Dead
Capítulo 18: The lost Book of Jasher
43:4743 minutos e 47 segundosSea Scrolls but obviously the writers of the Old Testament some of them were referring to this lost book of Jasher um
43:5443 minutos e 54 segundosso in the mediev in in during the medieval era uh somebody wrote a book of Jasher which
44:0344 minutos e 3 segundospurported to be the lost book of Jasher that's why some scholars consider it to be a forgery not the real
44:1144 minutos e 11 segundosbook of Jasher and in that book of Jasher Uh it ex it reinforces
44:2044 minutos e 20 segundosthe Sethite interpretation of Genesis 6, right? That it was just it was just noblemen or something like that that
44:2644 minutos e 26 segundoswere populating with the sons of Seth, the righteous line of Seth or rather the righteous line of Seth were populating
44:3444 minutos e 34 segundoswith the line of Cain, women from the line of Cain. And it just demonstrates that this was indeed the rabbitic
44:4144 minutos e 41 segundostradition after the time of Christ. and it's being reforined in the revenic community even up through the middle
44:4844 minutos e 48 segundosages. So, um it's again just to summarize what I just said, it's a an attempt to dethize
44:5744 minutos e 57 segundoswhat I would describe as the reality the the the angelic reality of the Genesis 6 affair. And unfortunately,
45:0445 minutos e 4 segundosmany seminaries run with this with the Sons of Seth interpretation.
45:0945 minutos e 9 segundosUm, but most scholars, certainly most scholars that I've encountered, uh,
45:1645 minutos e 16 segundoswould affirm the the supernatural interpretation of Genesis 6.
45:2145 minutos e 21 segundosSo, give me the reason why someone would want to dethize Genesis because that is classic changing
Capítulo 19: Demythologizing Genesis
45:2945 minutos e 29 segundosthe narrative, which is also known as manipulation.
45:3345 minutos e 33 segundosWell, it's scandalous, right? I mean it's very it's highly scandalous narrative you know and it was scandalizing not only to the Jews but
45:4045 minutos e 40 segundosalso to Christians during the there was a big debate about the book of Enoch that ensued in the early church age in
45:4845 minutos e 48 segundosthe second and third centuries and there were lots of church fathers who were for the book of Enoch. Some of them even cited the book of Enoch as scripture.
45:5645 minutos e 56 segundosRight? But they were using a book of Enoch that was uh that was different from the from the first Enoch that we
46:0546 minutos e 5 segundoshave today. Today we have the first Enoch because of the Ethiopians. They preserved it uh and they translated into
46:1346 minutos e 13 segundostheir their lurggical language Giz and it was James Bruce of Canard who
46:2146 minutos e 21 segundoswent to Ethiopia. I think he was looking for the ark of the covenant. He was a mason, Freemason, and he discovered
46:2946 minutos e 29 segundoscopies of the book of Enoch. He came back to Europe with three copies of the book of Enoch. That's why we have the book of Enoch today. There are fragments of Enoch among the Dead Sea Scrolls, by
46:3746 minutos e 37 segundosthe way, which attest to the accuracy of the GZ translation, but there's only about 25%
46:4546 minutos e 45 segundosof the Enoch manuscript preserved in the Dead Sea Scrolls, and it's highly fragmented. Whereas the GZ version preserves what we call today first
46:5346 minutos e 53 segundosEnoch. But the point here is that the early church fathers there is a different manuscript in circulation
Capítulo 20: Book of Enoch debates
47:0147 minutos e 1 segundobecause there's some things that they reference from the book of Enoch which we don't have in first Enoch. So let's be clear. Um the the the the book of
47:0847 minutos e 8 segundosEnoch is and I'm not arguing by the way that the book of Enoch should be considered canonical, should be incorporated into the Bible.
47:1547 minutos e 15 segundosFrankly, that question to me is irrelevant and uninteresting. I don't really care whether or not it should be considered canonical. It doesn't matter
47:2347 minutos e 23 segundosto me. I'm I'm interested in whether it's historically accurate, spec specifically the book of the watchers.
47:2947 minutos e 29 segundosBut uh but that was the debate in the second and third centuries that
47:3647 minutos e 36 segundossome some church fathers such as Tertullian argued vehemently that the book of Enoch was scripture. And of
47:4347 minutos e 43 segundoscourse he backed off at the um after realizing you know he was kicking against the goats. Most of his colleagues were opposed to that
47:5247 minutos e 52 segundosposition. So he backed off. But there were plenty of church fathers who who considered the book of Enoch not just historically useful but actually
48:0048 minutosscripture. Again that's not my argument but that gives you a idea of the conflict that was ensuing
48:0848 minutos e 8 segundostheological conflict surrounding this tradition. and the anoic uh tradition
48:1448 minutos e 14 segundosand uh so um and and you know it all depends this is a a broader conversation
48:2248 minutos e 22 segundosbut you know when you talk about what is considered scripture what's not considered scripture it all depends on what era you're living in frankly
48:3048 minutos e 30 segundosum you know you and I have have talked before doing a deep dive into the book of Enoch and I'm I am a Christian my audience knows this I say it all the
48:3848 minutos e 38 segundostime uh my family were Christians and they were, you know, a little scandalized by um me talking about it
48:4548 minutos e 45 segundosand me exploring it a little more. And the way that I have kind of explained it to them and to others was
48:5348 minutos e 53 segundosunderstanding the book of Enoch and what goes into it um almost gives you a better understanding of Christianity and the
49:0049 minutosBible. Because when you're growing up, and I'm not everyone is like me, but if you are like me and you were growing up and you were reading some of these stories in the Bible or at Sunday
49:0849 minutos e 8 segundosschool, some of it's like, "Oh, that that would never happen. That's that's a story, right? That's that's mythical,
49:1649 minutos e 16 segundosmagical. Um it's just a story to, you know, get the point across." But it made some of the stories in the Bible more
49:2549 minutos e 25 segundosreal to me and make more sense when you understand the book of Enoch and and what you can take out of it. Um,
49:3249 minutos e 32 segundosobviously most famously in the book of Samuel, David verse Goliath.
49:3749 minutos e 37 segundosGoliath. Yeah, that's right. You know, well, what I would say is this.
49:4249 minutos e 42 segundosWhatever you believe about the book of Enoch, whether whatever your relatives believe about the book of Enoch, whatever I believe about the book of Enoch, kind of irrelevant
49:5049 minutos e 50 segundosbecause the writers of the Old Testament absolutely believed that the Watchers descended to the earth and the anti-dolivian women populated with human
49:5849 minutos e 58 segundoswomen who who procreated through them uh a race of hybrid giants. That's indis really
50:0750 minutos e 7 segundosindisputable that this is foundational to Hebrew cosmology.
50:1350 minutos e 13 segundosAgain, not just in the Old Testament, it's being referenced in the New. So, it doesn't really matter what we personally
50:2050 minutos e 20 segundosthink about this story. You can't separate it from the biblical corpus.
50:2650 minutos e 26 segundosIt's impossible. You you can't there's no way to sift out the Anoic tradition.
50:3150 minutos e 31 segundosIt is it is so baked into the narrative that you really just um you deprive
50:4150 minutos e 41 segundosthe cosmological worldview of the ancient Hebrews if you try and sift out the anarchic narrative. So it again it's
50:5150 minutos e 51 segundosreally doesn't it's really irrelevant what what any modern how any moderns feel about that story. But to your point, yes, it it's scandalizing. That's
51:0051 minutoswhy, and I forgot to say this to to put a cap on that uh conversation about the
51:0751 minutos e 7 segundosum about the uh Book of Enoch in the early church age and the and the controversy surrounding it. It's because precisely because it was so
51:1651 minutos e 16 segundosscandalizing, right? I mean, it it causes you I like to say, and I've I borrowed this uh this phrase from the
51:2351 minutos e 23 segundoslate Christopher Hitchens, but I like to say that when you really begin to comprehend, when you really begin to
51:3051 minutos e 30 segundosabsorb the implications of the Genesis 6 affair, it forces a
51:3951 minutos e 39 segundosrearrangement of the theological furniture in your brain. You You can't think about the Bible in the same way. You can't. It's
51:4751 minutos e 47 segundosdone. The old Sunday school coloring book, you know, quaint understanding of of the anti-dolivian world is gone. It's
51:5651 minutos e 56 segundosobliterated, right? Along with some very long-standing theological traditions.
52:0252 minutos e 2 segundosOne of them being that angels are just ethereal, disembodied beings. Well, somebody explained to me how an athereal
52:0952 minutos e 9 segundosdisembodied spiritual being is capable of lust.
52:1452 minutos e 14 segundosOkay? Because lust is what I what I describe as uh it's the primary factor.
52:2252 minutos e 22 segundosIt's the first cause of the angels transgression was lust. They lusted. This is what the
52:3052 minutos e 30 segundosbook of Genesis says. Genesis 6. They lusted after the daughters of men. They saw that they were beautiful. So Genesis, the writer of Genesis softens
52:3852 minutos e 38 segundosthe language a little bit, but that that's that's coming straight out of the Anoic tradition in which the angels of heaven, the watchers lusted after the
52:4652 minutos e 46 segundosdaughters of men. So lust is the first cause of the watchers transgression. But they wanted to produce families,
52:5652 minutos e 56 segundosright? And they didn't just want them to to have sexual intercourse with these women. They they they wanted to produce
53:0453 minutos e 4 segundosoffspring with them and they wanted to do it within the covenant of marriage.
53:0953 minutos e 9 segundosEach watcher chose one wife from among the daughters of men according to the Enoic tradition. By the way, I should mention that the Enoic tradition which
53:1853 minutos e 18 segundosencompasses I think the the the book of giants um is also drawing from another
53:2653 minutos e 26 segundosvery ancient trai tradition which which scholars refers to the Noic tradition.
53:3153 minutos e 31 segundosAnd many scholars believe that there is a book of Noah, a lost book of Noah that sort of undergurs a lot of this
Capítulo 21: The lost book of Noah
53:3953 minutos e 39 segundosnarrative as well. That lost book of Noah may be represented among the fragments in the Dead Sea Scrolls. But you you it's like a jigsaw puzzle,
53:4853 minutos e 48 segundosright? Nobody has definitively been able to assemble a manuscript that represents the book of Noah, but a lot of scholars
53:5653 minutos e 56 segundosassume that there is a lost book of Noah. So this is a very rich
54:0254 minutos e 2 segundosuh tradition, a very rich tapestry of ideas that form the substrate of what we
54:1054 minutos e 10 segundoscall the Bible that form the the not only the the cosmological substrate, in other words, the world view of the
54:1854 minutos e 18 segundosbiblical writers, but the theological substrate. The corruption of the anti-dolivian world was a big deal to
54:2554 minutos e 25 segundosthe writers of the New Testament, to the writers of the Old Testament, even in the Dead Sea Scrolls. The corrup and that what was the corruption? It wasn't
54:3254 minutos e 32 segundosjust that people were evil. There's evil people now. No, the the corruption was these angelic beings who descended to
54:4054 minutos e 40 segundosthe earth and and and basically uh and
54:4754 minutos e 47 segundosbasically as I said before uh injected chaos into the created order and and that's why the flood was necessary.
54:5854 minutos e 58 segundosRight? This is this is the world view of the writers of the Bible. You as I said before, you can't say no, I don't think that that's true. Well, it doesn't
55:0655 minutos e 6 segundosmatter what you think. This is what they believed. Period. And again, I can say that with such confidence because the majority of scholars, I mean, this is
55:1455 minutos e 14 segundosthis is almost a scholarly consensus today. And I it probably is. I I think I'm being too generous. I think it is
55:2155 minutos e 21 segundosthe scholarly consensus, right? That the Genesis 6 affair conforms to the Anoic tradition. Period.
55:3055 minutos e 30 segundosSo, another question I have here here coming in about the Nephilim. So, we we've talked about how their spirits
55:3755 minutos e 37 segundosafter the flood uh remained, demons, etc. 10%. But now now we look in the Bible and then I get to Numbers 13:33.
55:4755 minutos e 47 segundosUm I've got my Harry Styles bookmark here. Thank you, Harry, for the layup.
55:5255 minutos e 52 segundosUm this is after the flood and we're having we're seeing the Nephilim
55:5955 minutos e 59 segundosreferenced again. They were um the Israelite spies. they were exploring Canaan. Um, and they said that they saw
56:0656 minutos e 6 segundossons of Anak. Um, so my question would be, is this now a second generation of
56:1556 minutos e 15 segundosgiants on earth or survivors of a pre flood bloodline? You know, this is a question that um
Capítulo 22: Are there descendants of the giants?
56:2456 minutos e 24 segundoswe wrestle with today in the modern context looking back at these traditions. But but also this is something that was being wrestled with clearly during the second temple period.
56:3256 minutos e 32 segundosThis idea that somehow uh giants appear in the post-fled world.
56:3956 minutos e 39 segundosHow how can that be? There's even some uh I can't remember which manuscript it's in, but in the Dead Sea Scrolls, there's a this story of a one of the
56:4856 minutos e 48 segundosgiants holding on to the ark, right? And that's how he made it through the flood and how there's a race of giants post
56:5556 minutos e 55 segundosflood. You know, there's all kinds of speculation ideas about this. Um because obviously you have, as you mentioned
57:0357 minutos e 3 segundosearlier, you have Goliath in a post flood context. You have the Anakim um who are descended from the Nephilim,
57:1057 minutos e 10 segundosit says. But you have the the the Eim, the the Zamzumim, you have the Rephaim
57:1757 minutos e 17 segundoswho are all clearly associated with giants. So you have giants inhabiting the promised land. When Joshua enters
57:2557 minutos e 25 segundosthe promised land with with the Hebrews to conquer it, they're fighting in some cases clans of giants. I mean, Og of Bashan
57:3357 minutos e 33 segundoswas the was a was a Raphaim king and [snorts] he had to be defeated. Um, and
57:4057 minutos e 40 segundosthe the giants that survived uh survived this this this um purge
57:4757 minutos e 47 segundosuh during the conquest purge of the offspring of the Nephilim.
57:5357 minutos e 53 segundosThey went to they went to reside among the Philistines and they were in places like the city of
58:0058 minutosGad and um and this is where we get this where we get Goliath from. So uh Gath
58:0758 minutos e 7 segundosrather the city of Gath. So uh obviously there's giants in the post flood context. So the big question is
58:1558 minutos e 15 segundoshow do they get there? The answer who knows I mean there's no definitive answer anywhere. Nobody gives a there's no definitive answer that I've encountered the Dead Sea Scrolls.
58:2458 minutos e 24 segundosThere's certainly no definitive answer of the biblical corpus, right?
58:2858 minutos e 28 segundosUh there's a lot of ideas, there's a lot of speculations. Um some people speculate that the uh the genetic
58:3758 minutos e 37 segundosmarkers of the giants were present in Noah's daughter-in-laws. In other words, the the wives of Noah's sons, specifically in in in the line of Ham.
58:4958 minutos e 49 segundosand that they just sort of were subvers they were subversive and they they were expressed later on. These these genes
58:5758 minutos e 57 segundosbecame expressed later on of the descendants of Ham. And then you get people who are growing to gigantic stature again. Okay, maybe you have
59:0459 minutos e 4 segundosother people who believe that there was a second incursion, right? That there was another event in which the fallen
59:1259 minutos e 12 segundosangels uh populated with human women and they just did it again. Um I I find that
59:2059 minutos e 20 segundosthat particular theory to be um rather weak because you know the first the
59:2959 minutos e 29 segundosfirst time this happened this was such a big deal in in in the in
59:3659 minutos e 36 segundosthe in the annals of Jewish history, right? This was such a monumental occurrence that the that the sons of God
59:4459 minutos e 44 segundosdescended the earth and did everything that they did that it's it's hard to imagine it happening again and nobody mentioning it.
59:5359 minutos e 53 segundosThere's nothing written about it.
59:5459 minutos e 54 segundosThere's no tradition concerning a second incursion. There is no tradition. Not any biblical or extra biblical or rather
1:00:021 hora e 2 segundosparab biblical tradition concerning a second incursion. It's not there.
1:00:071 hora e 7 segundosIt's just not there. And why wouldn't it be? I mean, why wouldn't the writer of Genesis say and and also the Watchers
1:00:141 hora e 14 segundosdescended again uh in the in in you know, whatever in the in the days of Noah after the flood and blah blah blah.
1:00:221 hora e 22 segundosThere's nothing like that. Everyone's looking back to the anti-delivian world, the world before the flood when they're talking about the incursion of angelic
1:00:301 hora e 30 segundosbeings. Peter's looking back to the world before the flood, not to some post flood incursion. So, it's it's hard for me uh to contemplate that one. It's just there's no record of it whatsoever.
1:00:421 hora e 42 segundosSo, um I I personally don't like that one very much. And then there's the there there's also the possibility and
1:00:511 hora e 51 segundosyou know, I'm there's there's also possibility that the Giants may have survived because the flood was not in fact global.
1:00:591 hora e 59 segundosAnd I'm agnostic on the scope of the flood. Um, I think there's very compelling arguments that can be made for both a global flood. In other words,
Capítulo 23: Was the “flood” global or local?
1:01:071 hora, 1 minuto e 7 segundosevery single mountain was underwater uh all over the earth as opposed to a local flood that the flood was localized
1:01:161 hora, 1 minuto e 16 segundosto the Mediterranean basin. Um, I I find both arguments to be equally both positions to be equally compelling both
1:01:251 hora, 1 minuto e 25 segundosum from a geological and exogetical perspective.
1:01:311 hora, 1 minuto e 31 segundosum you can make just as solid as an argument for a local flood as a global flood from the text itself. Uh and
1:01:381 hora, 1 minuto e 38 segundosscholars do all the time. So, but there's a third option and obviously if well let's address the this option here,
1:01:451 hora, 1 minuto e 45 segundosthe local flood option. If it was a localized flood, it was if it was a flood that was localized to the Mediterranean basin, then obviously any giants living outside of that area are
1:01:531 hora, 1 minuto e 53 segundosgoing to survive and continue to propagate into the post-led world. Um, so there's an option. And then, you
1:02:011 hora, 2 minutos e 1 segundoknow, I subscribe, although I'm agnostic on the scope of the flood, I'm absolutely convinced that there was a
1:02:081 hora, 2 minutos e 8 segundosglobal cataclysm, that that the entire earth was rocked by cataclysm and experienced catastrophic
1:02:171 hora, 2 minutos e 17 segundosflooding, um, extreme volcanism, earthquakes, biomass burning all over the globe. Uh, I'm I'm thoroughly convinced of that.
1:02:271 hora, 2 minutos e 27 segundosNow, I don't know if every mountain was underwater. So, um, so there's lots of possibilities, but there are no definitive answers. I
1:02:361 hora, 2 minutos e 36 segundoscan tell you that there's no definitive answers from the scriptures. There's no definitive answers from the Dead Sea Scrolls, unless you want to believe that
1:02:421 hora, 2 minutos e 42 segundosa giant hung on to the boat, right, to Noah's Arc. And that would be a long time to hang on.
1:02:481 hora, 2 minutos e 48 segundosThat's a long time to be holding on to a boat. Uh especially considering that it wouldn't be that difficult for no one, his sons, to chop the fingers off,
1:02:561 hora, 2 minutos e 56 segundosright? [snorts] Yeah. Oh yeah, absolutely. There were people on the boat that probably could have um handled that in in some way. Um
1:03:041 hora, 3 minutos e 4 segundoswe just did an episode on this show on Durupar, which is the site of the alleged Noah's arc that they are digging and ex trying to excavate right now.
1:03:131 hora, 3 minutos e 13 segundosthey've, you know, it's been a 60-year story at this one site and now they have, you know, the new technology that we're seeing, the AI scans, um, the radars, some of them that they've also
1:03:211 hora, 3 minutos e 21 segundosbeen used in Egypt, um, for some hypothesis over there of second, etc.
1:03:271 hora, 3 minutos e 27 segundosUm, that site, if it does get proven that it is actually Noah's
1:03:361 hora, 3 minutos e 36 segundosark, what do you think that does for the narrative of giants? Well, it's proven that it's Noah's arc. I mean, it it it
Capítulo 24: If Noah’s Ark is found, what changes?
1:03:441 hora, 3 minutos e 44 segundosoverturns uh the prevailing narrative, which is that Noah's arc never happened. That it's just a myth, right? And and everything that goes along with that,
1:03:521 hora, 3 minutos e 52 segundosall the theological, historical implications.
1:03:551 hora, 3 minutos e 55 segundosUm, you know, people need to understand that this site in Turkey is not new. This goes back to the 1950s.
1:04:041 hora, 4 minutos e 4 segundosIt was discovered a long time ago, decades ago, and it's been subjected to a lot of testing over the years. And there were even young earth creationist
1:04:121 hora, 4 minutos e 12 segundosscientists that went there who were really eager enthusiastic to to find definitive evidence of that this was
1:04:201 hora, 4 minutos e 20 segundosNoah's arc and determined that it wasn't that it was just a geological formation, national geological formation. Uh you
1:04:271 hora, 4 minutos e 27 segundosknow there's been back and forth on this thing forever. Um, I was entertaining uh the idea of going there myself with our
1:04:351 hora, 4 minutos e 35 segundosteam with our deep under underground penetrating radar that operates off of a drone platform and crisscross that thing
1:04:431 hora, 4 minutos e 43 segundosum and see what what sort of data we can um uh that that we can get and contribute to the ongoing investigations. But we didn't do that.
1:04:531 hora, 4 minutos e 53 segundosBut, you know, this is an example of a story that is
1:05:001 hora e 5 minutosthat is is going viral. Um, so it's it's it's going viral, but it's
1:05:091 hora, 5 minutos e 9 segundosalso, I think, being a little bit misrepresented.
1:05:131 hora, 5 minutos e 13 segundosAnd it's kind of interesting because last time I was talking to you and um to Ross Colart, we were talking about the
1:05:201 hora, 5 minutos e 20 segundospastor's briefing. remember the the pastor's alien briefing thing. It's kind of like that. Remember how viral that went?
1:05:261 hora, 5 minutos e 26 segundosYes. They were allegedly warned by the government to prepare congregations for UFO disclosure.
1:05:311 hora, 5 minutos e 31 segundosAnd that was just everywhere. It was just like it just went crazy on the internet. And it was just full of of halftruths and and misconstrances. And
1:05:411 hora, 5 minutos e 41 segundosthat's what I think we're looking at here with this Noah's Arc thing because again, this isn't new. Um I don't know what to make of the GPR data that
1:05:491 hora, 5 minutos e 49 segundosthey're publishing. They're not they haven't published I don't think they've published the entire report yet. I really don't know if it's Noah's Arc or not. I suspect it isn't. I mean, a lot
1:05:571 hora, 5 minutos e 57 segundosof the guys that I respect uh in in the field um in fact all of the guys that I respect in the field and
1:06:051 hora, 6 minutos e 5 segundosthis this who are scholars and and have been looking at this in great detail do not believe that this is Noah's arc. Mhm.
1:06:131 hora, 6 minutos e 13 segundosSo, [clears throat] um I would caution people again, we were talking about I was talking about earlier the the the
1:06:221 hora, 6 minutos e 22 segundossort of the hyperbolic energy surrounding um surrounding exorcisms.
1:06:301 hora, 6 minutos e 30 segundosI I would I would say that there's the same sort of energy surrounding this Noah's Arc find and that ultimately my
1:06:381 hora, 6 minutos e 38 segundossuspicion is that it's going to fizzle out and um and people are going to move on.
1:06:441 hora, 6 minutos e 44 segundosWhy do you think now is the time for that though? Because it seems like it's so heated in in any little niche of things that we talk about all of them
1:06:521 hora, 6 minutos e 52 segundoslike the UFO phenomenon, religion, demons. I everyone feels so impassioned right now about you know what they believe and what they don't believe.
1:07:021 hora, 7 minutos e 2 segundosWhat's significant about the timing because it feels to me the I mean I'm looking at the YouTube comments. We we did our show on it for unreported and
1:07:091 hora, 7 minutos e 9 segundosthere are so many people who are like we need this. I I want this. I believe this. And it's like the the the burning
1:07:161 hora, 7 minutos e 16 segundosdesire to prove that my my religion and my beliefs are real and and right. And I feel that with all the topics that we
1:07:241 hora, 7 minutos e 24 segundoscover. Yeah. Yeah. There's a lot of that and it's understandable. Um, you know, there's a return. There's sort of a there's a resurgence of Christianity
1:07:331 hora, 7 minutos e 33 segundoshappening in America right now. Very interesting. Um, not not just Protestant Christianity, Catholic and Orthodox as well. There's this resurgent people
Capítulo 25: Resurgence of faith in the U.S.
1:07:411 hora, 7 minutos e 41 segundospeople because I think it's in response the pendulum swing, right? It's in response to all of the secular humanistic
1:07:481 hora, 7 minutos e 48 segundoscraziness that we've been seeing, the the trans stuff and and all of the everything we went through with CO 19
1:07:551 hora, 7 minutos e 55 segundosand all of that. Um, and so people are wanting to they're looking for for for something
1:08:031 hora, 8 minutos e 3 segundosthat's got deeper roots than secular humanism, something that's more meaningful, something that answers better answers the profound questions
1:08:111 hora, 8 minutos e 11 segundosthat are per percolating in everyone's minds, right? the meaning of life and and and so we have this resurgence of Christianity
1:08:201 hora, 8 minutos e 20 segundosand and and along with that is the desire uh to affirm these narratives, the Christian narratives and and uh I
1:08:291 hora, 8 minutos e 29 segundoshave a desire to do that. I I I'm very enthusiastic about those kind of things.
1:08:331 hora, 8 minutos e 33 segundosBut I think we got to be very cautious because just because you're enthusiastic and you know you're being motivated by
1:08:411 hora, 8 minutos e 41 segundosthis this pious desire to affirm the scriptures, you got to be careful because for if this
1:08:491 hora, 8 minutos e 49 segundosif this alleged Noah's arc site in Turkey turns out to be a big flop, right? Turns out to be scientifically disproved, it's kind of egg on
1:08:581 hora, 8 minutos e 58 segundoseverybody's face, right? And so I think we got to be cautious and and make sure
1:09:061 hora, 9 minutos e 6 segundosthat, you know, we're not getting caught up into every single uh every single viral uh con every single piece of viral
1:09:141 hora, 9 minutos e 14 segundoscontent that emerges on social media that is seeming to affirm this that or the other. And um that's why I think so many people are gravitating toward the
1:09:231 hora, 9 minutos e 23 segundosaliens or demons narrative because it seems to affirm this biblical idea of demons and also answer this
Capítulo 26: Alien & demon narratives
1:09:321 hora, 9 minutos e 32 segundosreally mysterious question. And so people are rushing toward it and um and but it's in my opinion it's it's
1:09:411 hora, 9 minutos e 41 segundoscatastrophically deficient that narrative for many reasons. And so ultimately it's going to lead to a loss of credibility. It's going to do the
1:09:491 hora, 9 minutos e 49 segundosopposite. It's going to do it's going to have the opposite effect if we're not careful. It's going to cause Christians to look like lunatics who who are these
1:09:571 hora, 9 minutos e 57 segundosjust just these zealous lunatics who are willing to support and affirm anything and everything that gains traction on
1:10:051 hora, 10 minutos e 5 segundosthe internet. So I would just again I'm I'm doing a lot of cautioning here but I would caution uh patience and and and
1:10:141 hora, 10 minutos e 14 segundosuh take these things slow and make sure you look at all the different sides all the different angles like the pros and the cons. the people who are affirming
1:10:231 hora, 10 minutos e 23 segundosNoah's arc because of this discovery and then the people who are uh who are taking a more cautious approach
1:10:321 hora, 10 minutos e 32 segundosand a lot of and I'm talking about the people who are Christian scholars and and different um geologists and so forth who want to firm who want affirm the
1:10:391 hora, 10 minutos e 39 segundosscriptures but also don't want to rush headlong into uh something that turns out to be a hoax.
1:10:461 hora, 10 minutos e 46 segundosYeah, it it is it's detrimental to the narrative. Um, and yeah, there's a lot of people out there who have been there that have left
1:10:541 hora, 10 minutos e 54 segundosand saying, "Yes, this is a geological formation." And now you have Turkish government officials and um inst educational institutions out there
1:11:031 hora, 11 minutos e 3 segundossaying, "Hey, we're going to give you the rights to to do these digs and all that stuff." So, it's um going to be very interesting to kind of see how that
1:11:101 hora, 11 minutos e 10 segundosplays out. Um what's interesting with that is that we might actually get a real answer. you know, there are studies and samples that they're running and digs that they're doing and go for
1:11:181 hora, 11 minutos e 18 segundoscameras they're sending down there. So, we might actually get an answer on that or we we may not get anything at all.
1:11:251 hora, 11 minutos e 25 segundosThere may need no resolution whatsoever because there may be nothing there to confirm one way or the other. I mean, there there's no indication so far as
1:11:341 hora, 11 minutos e 34 segundosfar as I've seen and and I've seen what's been claimed over and against some of the some of the I don't want to call them
1:11:421 hora, 11 minutos e 42 segundosdebunkers. I some of the people were being a little more skeptical about the claims. Again, within the Christian community, I'm not convinced that there's petrified wood under there. I
1:11:511 hora, 11 minutos e 51 segundosdon't know. I mean, there's there's all kinds of claims. It's easy to claim things um and and that and it's easy to
1:12:001 hora e 12 minutospresent in today's day and age. It's easy to present a convincing narrative that this is definitive. 100, you know,
1:12:091 hora, 12 minutos e 9 segundosnewspapers, I think the Daily Mail, correct me if I'm wrong, were running with the headline 100% confirmation or something like that of Noah's Arc.
1:12:201 hora, 12 minutos e 20 segundosThat's hyperbole.
1:12:211 hora, 12 minutos e 21 segundosAnd it's disingenuous. And you know why they do that? They do it to get the clicks. They do it to draw to draw the eyeballs. And people will will glance at
1:12:301 hora, 12 minutos e 30 segundosa headline like that and then just automatically be totally convinced that oh my god it's
1:12:371 hora, 12 minutos e 37 segundosNoah's arc. It's 100%. In fact, I've seen a lot of clips of pastors uh pastors who are preaching sermons now
1:12:441 hora, 12 minutos e 44 segundosbased on their 100% confidence that this is Noah's arc. Well, are they going to
1:12:511 hora, 12 minutos e 51 segundospreach sermons if it's if it's proven that it's not Noah's arc? Are they going to go back and amend that sermon and
1:12:571 hora, 12 minutos e 57 segundosthen preach a sermon that that uh red addresses this mis this uh this fake
1:13:051 hora, 13 minutos e 5 segundosnews? I don't know. That's why that's why caution is always advised.
1:13:101 hora, 13 minutos e 10 segundosOne of the things since I've did the interview with the two people who are on the site working and leading that um dig. One of the things that I keep
1:13:181 hora, 13 minutos e 18 segundosthinking of after the fact is if this is Noah's ark and in the Bible, you know, it says Noah came off the ark and built
